Like a Local

Quirky, under -the-radar highlights only a local could recommend.

CraigCats

CraigCats are exciting 2-person mini power boats that allow you to zip along our 2,800 scenic lake. An awesome alternative to jet skis, they’re very stable, easy to maneuver and a blast to drive. You can even fish from them!

Stonewall Outfitters Pass

This $15 day pass gives you unlimited 2 hour sessions on all of our kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle boards, paddle boats, aqua cycles and road bikes. A fantastic value, a great way to explore the lake, and a convienent way to try out something new - such as a stand-up paddle board - without fully committing.

Taco Tuesdays on Little Sorrel

Once a month throughout summer, guests can climb aboard our 110-passenger cruise boat — named Little Sorrel — for unlimited tacos, chips and salsa. For just $30, you get food, a 2-hour lake cruise and 2 margaritas (or other drink of your choice).

The King’s Course

How often do you get to play an Arnold Palmer–designed course for only $30 in season? Stonewall Resort designed The King’s Course – essentially a course within the existing Palmer Course. While this course is 18 holes, the shorter tee box distances make it a 2,600 yard short course. Great for new golfers, and a unique challenge for more experienced golfers, this course was ranked one of the top public golf courses in West Virginia by Golf Magazine.

Our Cool Hot Spot

One of our most popular gathering spots, the lodge’s pool and patio area is a treat in every season. The area is especially magical at night with the glow of our flaming fire pit and bistro lighting. Comfy seating encourages guests to gather to make new friends, share stories and enjoy the tradition of making S’mores.

The Weekender

How to spend 36 hours in Roanoke, with Stonewall Resort as your base camp.

Friday

5 p.m. | Cruise on Little Sorrel

After getting settled in, check to see when the complimentary evening cruise aboard Little Sorrel departs (summer only; departure time fluctuates). Named for General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson’s favorite warhorse, the 70-foot-long, 16-foot-wide excursion boat explores the coves and bays of 2,650-acre Stonewall Jackson Lake in 45-minute tours.

8 p.m. | Dinner at TJ Muskies Bar & Grill

A granite-topped bar with a backdrop of dry-stacked stone and a glass-enclosed fire pit greets you in this casual Adirondack-style lounge. The crab cake croissants (two jumbo lump cakes on mini-croissants) and half-pound burgers made from local farm-raised beef are the crowd favorites. Now featuring 8 beer taps and 7 large flat screens to catch your favorite game

Saturday

8 a.m. | In the Lap of the Lake

Don’t feel too envious as you stroll past the vessels docked in the over 300 slips of the marina; you can rent a boat of your own to take in the 26 miles of shoreline. The resort’s new fleet of pontoon boats, including a double-decker pontoon with a slide, are ideal for cruising in search of osprey, bald eagles, beaver, and otter; fishing boats let you pursue the lake’s legendary trophy bass. Our CraigCats are a lot of fun, too!

1 p.m. | Lunch al Fresco on the Stillwaters' Patio

Dining in Stillwaters, the resort's signature restaurant, is always a pleasure. Dine outside on our patio under the bistro lights and experience excellent service and authentic cuisine. Locally sourced game, fish and produce are prepared with our own unique flare.

2:30 p.m. | Winery Tour of Lambert’s Winery

Ever wonder how West Virginia's favorite wine is produced? Take a tour of the beautiful Lambert's Winery and sample their renowned selection of locally-grown wines.

7 p.m. | Sunset Dinner at Lightburn’s Restaurant

Go ahead; ask for the best seat in the house at this steak and seafood restaurant with a smokehouse-centric menu. Thanks to its location atop the golf clubhouse surrounded with 365 degrees of glass windows that overlook the lake and mountains, there isn’t a bad seat to be had. After, treat yourself to dessert on the resort’s patio – a fire pit comes with all the accoutrements for roasting s’mores while relaxing in an Adirondack style chair.

Sunday

10 a.m. | Get Your Golf On

You can’t leave the resort without playing a round on the 7,149-yard course, molded into the natural ridges, swales, and twists of the land by Arnold Palmer. Challenge comes in the form of deep bunkers with heavy front lips, steep greens, and water features – all of which exist on Hole 6’s par-3.

Flavor of

The best food artisans, farms, and local markets.

Lambert’s Vintage Wine

Lambert’s Vintage Wine

After rolling up a windy, narrow road tucked in the hills of Weston, you’ll arrive at this small Old World–inspired winery built from hand-cut stones gathered across the state. Daily tours are led by winemaker and owner Jim Lambert and end with a free tasting of their full roster of 20-something wines (!) in their antique-adorned tasting room.

Spiker Farms

Spiker Farms

Much of the meat at Stonewall’s restaurants come from the cattle that roam the 600 acres of this Jane Lew farm. While the farm isn’t open for tours, you can sample the food of their labor in Stillwater's popular Spike Beef Meatloaf – a twist on the staple that features the farm’s sirloin, veal, and pork, as well as house spices and blackberry barbecue sauce.

Bridgeport Farmers Market

Bridgeport Farmers Market

Starting with just a handful vendors in a small parking lot of the local high school in 2009, this Sunday market has transformed into a standing weekly pilgrimage for the community. Now open year-round with its summer location at Charles Pointe and winter location inside the Bridgeport Conference Center, expect as many as 35 vendors, selling produce and meat, as well as handmade items.

Big Timber Brewing Company

Big Timber Brewing Company

You’ll see the owners either brewing or bartending when you visit this microbrewery and brewpub, so feel free to ask questions about their 10 beers on taps, from their lighter Big Timber Pale Ale to the darker Bourbon Barrel Porter. If you’re not up for the 50-minute drive to Elkins, Stonewall’s TJ Muskies serves a few of their seasonal varieties.

The Adventurist

When simply “seeing” a destination just won’t do

Feature Adventure: No Work, All Clay

You might worry that you’re in the wrong place, that you’ve stumbled upon someone’s private retreat in the woods. That’s just how homey A Mountain Clays feels, a skeet shooting facility nestled on 90 forested acres with a wood and stone cabin in Bridgeport. In addition to seven solar-powered RC launchers positioned for the five shooting spots on the attached deck and a room of guns and ammo available for rent and purchase, there’s a decorated living room complete with a fireplace, an attached kitchen, and a dining room. It’s so that when groups come to practice their shooting, they can make a whole day out of it. Think of it as renting a private hunting cabin.
